The camp song of Horseshoe, the Loop of the Octoraro Bend,is sung by the camp staff after campfires and chapel service. It is a tribute to scouting's and the camp's traditions and many Paoli 1 scouts may recognize and identify with the uniform style mentioned. After the verses are finished, camp staff will typically hum the tune and then sometimes repeat it a second time as the campers depart from the event.

Horseshoe Saturday Night Campfire

It all began with the dreams of old,
The Indian brave and the pioneer bold,
By campfire's light old tales retold
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

Those early scouts with their campaign hats,
Their pressed wool shirts, their boots and spats,
Rekindled the dream that had gone before
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

Refrain: They built a camp upon the Mason-Dixon Line,
Historic land where values shine,
O' Horseshoe your memories will 'er be mine,
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

The sun comes up over Flag Pole Hill,
Where Old Glory flew and is flying proudly still,
And we'll march to the call at the end of the day
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

So let's hoist our packs once again my friends,
Where the waters flow 'round the tranquil Horseshoe Bend,
And we'll hike and we'll camp in the old scout way
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

Refrain: They built a camp upon the Mason-Dixon Line,
Historic land where values shine,
O' Horseshoe your memories will 'er be mine,
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

He served a camp upon the Mason-Dixon Line,
His years as chief numbered twenty nine,
Achggeketum your lessons will 'er be mine,
In the loop of the Octoraro Bend.

Song OriginsEdit

The camp song was written in 1988 by Kevin Grewell and Vance Hein. It was inspired by an archaeological dig at Buzzard's Rock by Mark McConoughy and Doug Miller of the State Museum of Pennsylvania. This dig found artifacts of Native Americans dating back 9000 years to 7000 BC on the Horseshoe grounds.
